What this tool does
HTTP Basic Authentication sends a username and password with each request inside an Authorization header. The credentials are combined as username:password and encoded with Base64. This tool builds that header so you can use it in API testing tools like cURL, Postman or your own code.
Example
For user admin and password secret, the header is Authorization: Basic YWRtaW46c2VjcmV0.
Using it with cURL
You can paste the header directly: curl -H "Authorization: Basic …" https://api.example.com, or let cURL build it with -u user:pass.
Security: Base64 is not encryption — anyone who sees the header can decode the password. Always use Basic Auth over HTTPS only, and prefer tokens or OAuth where possible.
Limitations
- Credentials are encoded, not protected. Do not use Basic Auth on plain HTTP.
- This tool does not store or transmit your credentials.
Privacy: Encoding happens entirely in your browser.
