What this tool does
A data URI embeds an image directly inside your HTML or CSS as Base64 text, so the browser doesn't need a separate file request. This tool reads your image locally and outputs the data URI plus ready-to-use snippets.
When to use data URIs
- Tiny icons or logos, to save an HTTP request.
- Inlining an image into a single self-contained HTML file or email.
When not to
- Large images — Base64 is about 33% bigger than the file, and inlined images aren't cached separately.
- Images reused across many pages — a normal file URL caches better.
Privacy: Your image is read in your browser with the FileReader API and is never uploaded to any server.
