What is a User-Agent?

Every browser sends a User-Agent (UA) string with each request, describing the browser, its version, the rendering engine, the operating system and sometimes the device. Servers and analytics tools use it to tailor responses and gather statistics. This parser breaks a UA string into readable parts.

Example

A Chrome-on-Windows UA reveals the browser (Chrome + version), engine (Blink), and OS (Windows 10). A phone UA additionally identifies the device model where available.

Notes

  • User-Agent strings can be changed or spoofed, so treat the result as a strong hint, not proof.
  • Modern browsers are gradually reducing UA detail for privacy (User-Agent reduction).
